Why do we smoke?
Smoking is a displacement activity that feels like it enables us to release tensions that build up in every day life. It enables us to get away from conflict or just to take a break. Eliminate the habit and you also eliminate the excuse to take a break! Smoking is also used as a reward. We stop to smoke when we've finished a task or completed a job, or maybe it's a rebellious thing! Sneaky smoking - to go against the grain, not to be told what to do, or maybe to be seen to be in with the 'in-crowd'. Very rarely is adult smoking to do with the reasons that a smoker first began smoking. Often it began during teenage years, to join in with friends, to do something that our parents didn't know about or maybe to seem/feel grown-up. The reality is, that it just becomes a habit, something we fit into everyday life. Something we make time for, or maybe something we see as 'our own'. However, in truth cigarettes and smoking are a thief!! They are a thief of your time, of your money, of your health and maybe even your life. You wouldn't knowingly let anyone or anything steal from you in this way - don't let a cigarette steal your life!
