Research by the University of Hertdfrshire shows that only 1 in 10 people succeed with their New Year resolutions. A year long study of 10,000 people showed that to boost chances of success:-
Men should set specific goals and write them down rather than just making a statement like "I need to lose weight" set a goal such as a 1lb a week and you will be 22% more likely to achieve it!!
Women should tell people what their resolution is - they need to let everyone know what their intentions are, they then increase their chances of success by 10%!!
Decide upon your resolution before new year's eve. Give your brain chance to adjust to the change before it takes place. If you are tackling an 'old' problem, do so in a new way!! If you do what you've always done, you will get what you've alway got - if you do something different - you will get something different!!
GOOD LUCK!!

How do you find motivation?
If I had a pound for every person that has asked me to 'give them motivation', I'd be a very rich person! Motivation cannot be given to you, it has to be found within you. A question that I ask everyone that wants to make some sort of change in their lives, it is "why should you bother?". Now this might seem a really simple question, with often what would appear to be a really obvious answer, but of course it is never as simple as that! When I first ask people why they want to stop smoking, most say "for health reasons". I'll then go on to ask what is it that they think might happen to them if their health suffers? Who will be affected if their health suffers? What might they have to endure if they contract a smoking related disease, how might this affect their children? What does a future with a terminal illness look like? After we've explored these thoughts, we get a lot closer to answering the question "why should you bother?" I suppose the question should be written "why should YOU bother?"!!

What is Obsessive Compulsive Disorder?
We all have little habits or rituals that we indulge in. In fact life is made up of routine and habit. It's when those habits and rituals begin to take over and we feel that we need to do them to avoid fear or something serious happening, that they fall into the category of OCD.
The habits and behaviours can seem bizarre to someone else, completely nonsensical, but to the person performing them, they feel they are 'locked' into the habit and in fact derive no pleasure from performing them.
It is thought that OCD can be related to a chemical imbalance in the brain. Luckily though, this chemical imbalance can be addressed effectively without medication. By applying behaviour therapy techniques, you can change they way you respond to thoughts and urges and can change the way your brain works.

What is a phobia?
A phobia is an irrational fear of something. The reason why people with phobias have such an extreme response to a situation is that their fear is three-fold. The average person who finds themselves in a situation that they do not like, will experience the negative feelings attached to just that situation. Someone with a phobic response, experiences the fear that they are feeling in the moment, plus all the memories they have of the fear that they've experienced in the past PLUS the fear that they may feel in the future, should they find themselves having to deal with the situation again. This is why a phobic response is such an extreme response. The rational part of the brain knows that it is extreme, but cannot help in reducing the phobia. Hypnotherapy is an extremely effective way of dealing with fears and phobias as it re-programs the brain to experience different more positive emotions and feelings in that same situation in the future. It is very much like buying a new program for your computer and installing it. It now becomes available for use which means you can 'delete' the 'old' program.

Hypnotherapy with Children
Hypnotherapy can be very effective for children as young as age 5. It can help in dealing with phobias, fears, anxiety, confidence, behaviour. We are all aware that children use their imagination all the time. Hypnotherapy with children enables the therapist to 'tap' into the child's imagination and use it to help them overcome difficulties. As children do not have the same barriers and analytical skills as an adult, they can often be extremely receptive to hypnotherapy. In most situations, you would expect to see some positive change even after the first session. More than one session may be required to help the child deal with the problem, but if they are going to be receptive to hypnosis, they'll begin to respond fairly quickly. Why do we smoke?
Smoking is a displacement activity that feels like it enables us to release tensions that build up in every day life. It enables us to get away from conflict or just to take a break. Eliminate the habit and you also eliminate the excuse to take a break! Smoking is also used as a reward. We stop to smoke when we've finished a task or completed a job, or maybe it's a rebellious thing! Sneaky smoking - to go against the grain, not to be told what to do, or maybe to be seen to be in with the 'in-crowd'. Very rarely is adult smoking to do with the reasons that a smoker first began smoking. Often it began during teenage years, to join in with friends, to do something that our parents didn't know about or maybe to seem/feel grown-up. The reality is, that it just becomes a habit, something we fit into everyday life. Something we make time for, or maybe something we see as 'our own'. However, in truth cigarettes and smoking are a thief!! They are a thief of your time, of your money, of your health and maybe even your life. You wouldn't knowingly let anyone or anything steal from you in this way - don't let a cigarette steal your life!

Why men get caught looking and women don't!!
Men have what is referred to as 'tunnel vision'. This makes them far better at seeing directly in front of them and over long distances. Their close range and peripheral vision though is far poorer than a woman's, which is why men have difficutly seeing things in the fridge and in the cupboard right in front of them! Women however have a greater peripheral vision which extends to at least 45 degrees to each side, above and below, which means they can appear to be looking at someone's face, when in fact they are inspecting their 'goods'! The reality is, that women check out men's bodies more than men check out women's, it's just that men's tunnel vision means they keep getting caught!!!
